What does the County capitation fee include?

How is the County capitation fee set?

The Board will review the budget for the following financial year, discuss the options for setting the capitation fee and consider the various scenarios before voting to set the fee for the following year. This is then communicated to the Districts and Groups in the autumn.

What is being done to keep the County capitation fee as low as possible?

  • Costs are continuously reviewed to ensure they are necessary and adding value.
  • The Trustee Board will be continuing to a review areas that impact our financial position:
    • Fundraising from external sources
    • AGM Cost and Format
    • Hardship Funding
    • Financial impact of our investment in growth strategy
    • Office Expenses
    • Cost of International Support
    • Self-funding by County activity teams and events

There have already been changes to international grant funding from the County in the past financial year, as well as County activity teams and events becoming self-funded with no contribution from the capitation fee.

The Board continues to look at ways of reducing costs, e.g. staging the AGM within an already established event and streamlining our award ceremonies without of course negatively impacting their value and importance. In addition, there will be welcome saving of circa £5k/year as a result of the closure of the County Office at the end of 2025 due to the administration team now working remotely.

Funding the future

The Board has raised additional funds since the last AGM including a ring-fenced £20,000 grant (thank you to Sophia Wilks and all others involved in securing this funding) for a mobile event centre and a further £13,000 in donations. Furthermore, we are in the process of creating a Fund-Raising Sub-Team; anyone who is interested in joining this team, particularly if they have fundraising experience, should contact Steve Mitchison.
