WS 2008 International Activity Camp for Scouts and Guides

Launch Meeting

The WS2008 Launch Meeting, 7.30pm at Tanbridge School Horsham on Monday 3rd September. This is for all interested leaders to come along and find out about WS.

 Camp Leader Announced

The two Guide County Commissioners and the (Scout) County Commissioner wish to pass on their thanks to Gwyn Cheesmur who is Group Scout Leader at the 1st Copthorne Scout Group for agreeing to be the Camp Leader.

Gwyn has held a raft of appointments at Group level and very much a "the out in scouting" type of guy. He has been to all WS's apart from one.  He has been a sub-camp leader, but since then has managed (with Christine his wife) on four occasions "The Village" - the trading centre of the camp.

Gwyn is searching for members of his main team from both scouting and guiding, and has an idea of timings for critical events leading up to the camp.   He is also keen that activities are a pivotal part of the camp.

He would be very interested to hear from people if they would like to be considered for any of the main roles - email gwynandchristine 'at' cinderwood.fsnet.co.uk

INTERNATIONAL ACTIVITY CAMP FOR SCOUTS AND GUIDES

ARDINGLY SHOWGROUND

2nd AUGUST – 9th AUGUST 2008

Scouters, Guiders one and all - Plans for our International Activity Camp for 2008 are now underway.

My name is Gwyn Cheesmur and the County Commissioners for West Sussex Scouts, and Girlguiding Sussex West & Central have invited me to head up the WS Experience for 2008.

Following the tremendous success of previous WS Camps, held every four years since 1980, the position is both daunting and yet challenging. WS is an experience that I have seen so many young people enjoy and gain so much from over the years and that could play an important part in the programme for your Unit or Group in 2008.

Although I am a Group Scout Leader I have always actively supported both Scouting and Guiding, but to maintain the balance Christine Cheesmur (my wife and current Sussex Central County Commissioner) has agreed to take the Deputy Camp Chief position. Together, and with the wealth of experience of leaders across the Scout and Guide Counties, we aim to carry forward all the principles established in W.S. from the past and develop some changes to enhance the experience for all the Scouts and Guides that attend.

I am fully aware that this 2008 camp follows a very busy Centenary Year in Scouting. This makes the camp even more important in ensuring that interest and activity are maintained in both Scouting & Guiding beyond the Centenary.
The Scout Centenary Year is an ideal opportunity to form those International Links for sections and hopefully every opening in this respect will be explored.

We are at present forming the core teams and are looking county wide for leaders and adult supporters who think they could provide experience and expertise in the many aspects of the camp, such as;

Administration, all types of Scout and Guide activities, religious involvement, PR, publishing, IT, site services, procurement, first aid, waste recycling, entertainment…  and much more.

If you feel that you would like to be part of the camp support team please let us know your details including your particular interests.

By e-mail to gwyn 'at' cinderwood.fsnet.co.uk.

Help make it great in 2008!
