1st Langley Green Garden Makeover!

On Tuesday 27th July, 11 RSA Insurance Group employees from the Horsham office, used their 1 day volunteering allowance, to give the garden and grounds of 1st Langley Green Scout Hall, Crawley a makeover.

A normal office day for the RSA Team usually involves sitting at their desk selling and underwriting insurance policies, with little opportunity to get the whole team out of the office at the same time working towards a specific goal.

1st Langley Green’s garden certainly gave the team a challenge and specific goal to achieve: 6 hours to transform the overgrown garden areas to give the hall curb appeal and maximise the safe useable outdoor space available for the Group’s use.

After 43 sacks of garden waste, 9 broken chairs, 1 frog, lots of spiders, weeds and brambles the team completed its challenge.

Beki Colyer, City Trading Underwriter for RSA coordinated the team. Beki said “The project gave us as a group of colleagues the opportunity to get to know each other much better. And it’s helped us improve our team working and communication skills. With the added benefit that we’ve been able to support a local Scout Group.”

June Kennedy, Group Scout Leader for 1st Langley Green Scout Group said. “The team have really transformed the Scout Hall grounds, which will allow the scouts to make full use of the available outdoors space for games and activities.

6 hours later. What a cracking job!

Mark Guy, County Recruitment and Development Officer for West Sussex Scouts over saw the project and spent the day with the RSA team. Mark said: “The team from RSA really did get stuck in and I think the results speak for themselves. Days like these demonstrate the flexible nature of the volunteering opportunities Scouting has available. Whether you have one day or several, Scouting has opportunities that fit around the individual, no matter what you are interested in or what skills you have; there is a role for you”.
