Since the county conference it is apparent that the County is moving forward. After a positive feedback from all the participants we now move forward in implementing my 2012 strategy, that is to 2012 more members by the year 2012.

With the total support of districts and their development plans we will achieve this target.

Some of the young people who attended the conference have put forward some very positive ideas which myself and the county development team are discussing.

The Sir Brian Barttelot Award, a developments project for all young people throughout the County is now being undertaking at District level with the County finals day set 30^th November 2008

Scouting Happenings
A new section has been added to the website menu - Scouting Happenings - featuring events that have happened or are going to happen in Sections, Groups, Districts, indeed anywhere across the County - see here for the news. The International pages have had a significant makeover - have a look here Latest- Sedan Chair Rally, October 24-26 Sadly news of a non-happening. The Explorer Leader support day has had to be cancelled. However it is hoped that some form of roadshow can be put on to deliver the information. More news when available
Cub Campalot		Introducing ...
The Knights are plotting... to bring you a fabulous camp in May 2009. More news and a request for more details here		Andrea Bailey, County Recruitment and Development Officer (CRDO). Andrea joins West Sussex for a 3 year project to encourage the development of Scouting in West Sussex with set targets and objectives being fed through the County project panel. You will be seeing Andrea in all sorts of places throughout the County over this period, one of her first duties was at the South of England Show, on the Scouts stand. Her objectives include recruiting and retaining further adults into Scouting, increasing the involvement of young adults into Scouting especially Explorers, Explorer Young leaders and members of the Scout Network. Contact with Andrea will initially be through the County Office as it is important that her tasks are directed through the County Project Panel.
Network Relaunch		National Scout Air Rifle Championships
The Re-launch represents an opportunity for Networkers in the county to get together with key members of the county and district teams to discuss what we want W.S. Network to become and how to achieve it. The day featured presentations from Ed Wilson from HQ and the county team, but most excitingly an opportunity for Network members to present their views and ideas on ways forward. The key part of the day involved grouping members together by geographical location in the county and in their groups agree positive action points to progress Network in their local area. We hope to update on their progress at a county Scout Network camp in the summer and perhaps a similar conference next year. A copy of the Network Relaunch newsletter is available here.		The 32nd National Scout Air Rifle Championships are to be held at Bisley Camp near Guildford Surrey on the 17th- 19th October 2008. This is a wonderful event where Scouts, Explorers Scouts, Scout Network and Adults undertake many different disciplines in 6yrd Rifle , Field Target, Reactive Knockout and Pistol Competitions. Entries are limited so early entry is recommended. You don’t have to be a master shot and the experience is very worth while. Improvements this year will include: Pre-charged air rifles for all age groups in the 6-yard Air Rifle main event, An "Olympic Final" for the "Own Pistol" Class Separate "Sporter Class" for 10-metre air rifle. We are also delighted to announce that our guest presenter this year will be England's most successful-ever Commonwealth Games athlete, pistol shooter Mick Gault OBE. County Directory Update		Supporting Scouting
The County Directory has recently been updated. If you know of any changes please make sure that you let Carol at the County Office know by email to countyoffice@westsussexscouts.org.uk with the details. Registered users can search the directory on line. Access is password restricted to bona fide Scouting members and others with valid reason to access the directory. To request a password email webmaster@westsussexscouts.org.uk . If you have already been assigned a password, click here for access		All adult members of Scouting are supporters of Scouting, whether they be section Scouters, Executive members, GSLs, Commisioners or any other role where time is given to ensure young people can enjoy Scouting. Conventions used on this site

This site, in common with many other web sites regualrly gets hit by a number of automated 'robots' or 'bots' as they are commonly known. Some are good - e.g. search engines that establish a listing in Google or Yahoo, but many of them are bad for a variety of reasons. Steps have been taken to minimise the bad effects, including changing some email addresses to include the word 'at' instead of the symbol @ and similarly the word 'dot' instead of the fullstop (.) in web addresses. Guidelines issued by the Scout Association are used as guidelines for this website particularly in the area of 'Young People First'
