East Grinstead

East Grinstead can be found in the north-eastern corner of West Sussex, and borders Surrey, Kent, and East Sussex. On a North / South line it is central to an attractive coastline and London, with Ashdown Forest just outside the District's boundary.

Five Groups are based in the town itself, with four Groups to be found in the surrounding villages, namely Forest Row (which is in East Sussex), and Copthorne, Turners Hill & Crawley Down, and West Hoathly.

The District can claim many successes with activities and other events which have been put in place by past and current District teams. Each section has activities which are both regular and well known. The District wishes to not only recognise the achievements of those who are members of the older sections, but also those at the younger end to, with award ceremonies being held at suitable locations.

Activities include regular annual canoeing courses to expeditions abroad, and the District is central to three main designated campsites, namely Broadstone Warren and Perry Wood (which are Scout sites), and Blackland Farm (which is a Guide Association site).

At its Annual General Meeting four awards are presented to recognise Explorer Scouting, Community Involvement, Group Development, and Team Work in a Challenging Environment. The latter award is sponsored by a local blue chip company, which was a result of the District's drive for Corporate involvement.

A District newsletter is issued three times a year which highlights the activities of the District. A copy of a recent edition (subject to availability), can be obtained by contacting the District Commissioner whose address can be found on this website.

If you have not already done so, please take a look at the District's website
