A report by the County Commissioner from the County conference at Eastbourne |

4.7% increase in numbers : fantasticWe are growing and there is a buzz around the county you must all be congratulated.
My target of increase in membership of 2012 by the year 2012 which we will achieve with your continued support and enthusiasm.
"I have no doubts that West Sussex Scouts will move from strength to strength in achieving its overall objectives and your project of 2012 is guaranteed. The enthusiasm and fresh ideas will certainly pave the way for our future growth."
The county conference which recently took place at the
Eastbourne conference centre was a resounding success bringing the District Commissioners, District Chairmen, Young Leaders and members of the County team together the theme being strength to strength with the ultimate aim of getting our young leaders more involved in key role and more importantly, letting them know that their opinions are valued.
"I would like to thank you for including me in the weekend - I was so proud to be part of such a dynamic enthusiastic group of people. West Sussex Scouts has got to be the best. Everything about the weekend was exceptional."
Friday evening we looked back on 2007 and had an brief discussion on the 'Want to Join' scheme.
We had young people working with the County team and District Commissioners and District Chairman and another group planning an activity which was put into practice on the Saturday afternoon when some Eastbourne Cub Scouts came to test out the activity which apparently involved, amongst other things, eating ice cream.
"I would like to thank you and Roger for the opportunity to take part this weekend. It was not only FUN but it has helped me to grow as a leader. It helped me see that we are part of not just a group or a district but part of a county and much more. So here is to more contact with other groups and districts in the county. Just one last word communication is the key."
I also set out the criteria for the Sir Brian Barttelot centenary award, which will be a biennial award for the best district project set up by young people.and presented at a County Award day by young people.
First prize will be £2500 to go towards the project with a second prize of £1500 and a third of £1000.
The award is named after our president, because of his generosity in setting up a luncheon to for the funding.of the project.
During the weekend we had support from our National Commissioner, Wayne Bulpitt, Regional Commissioner, Martin Gerrard, as well as headquarters staff, for which I am most grateful.
"Very many thanks for your kind hospitality, nothing but good vibes from the conference and those who were there. A really well organised event and a tribute to the team who put it together, great mix of ages and experience (and personalities!). Brilliant!" |
